Happily Tweeting for Business

I have a new client, Data Wise Business Solutions. I really like working with them because their principal is a good guy, and I think their products are great. They do Employee Satisfaction surveys and Customer Satisfaction Surveys. With the Employee Satisfaction Surveys, their key thinking is and I believe it’s true: “Happy ¬†Employees Equal Happy Customers.” Of course Happy Employees are also more productive, stay with their companies, contribute more to the bottom line and generally put the whole company in a better mood. They also do key action planning to implement the changes suggested by employees comments in the surveys!

I love working for an organization that can help put companies in a better mood. I named their Twitter account @Happiness_BIZ! Because it’s true. Data Wise is in the happiness business. In these hard times, people have been gutting it out working hard to get and keep their jobs. Many are restless and wearing out. Happiness people coming in, surveying them, following up with action planning on their areas of concern. Teaching management what the employees need to be happy and wow it is a whole new ball game!

Tweeting is fun for @Happiness_BIZ, tweeting Happiness Quotes :), motivational goodies, articles on what makes employees happy or un. Very fun! And soon I’ll be tweet blog posts from the new web site we’ve been working on.

I just received an email from someone I worked with a while back doing cold-calling. Our marketing efforts were focused on cold-calling and the venture, as it happens, was not very successful. My involvement was brief as my business grew, I couldn’t help out in his start-up venture any more. He just asked me the BIG question: Are social media tools, blogs, email blasts and websites the way to market?

My answer is a resounding “YES!”

A year ago my business was focused on two things: publicity and sales lead generation or cold-calling for companies. Now it is completely focused on publicity and social media marketing. Social media marketing it is what companies need and want. So I am providing it. Fortunately I have been on social media sites for over 5 years and focused heavily on them for the last two and a half years. I have learned a lot. I am not a social media expert — no one is — and I caution you about people who call themselves one. The landscape is changing too quickly for anyone to be an expert. I say I am an internist, a practitioner, but I am still in school! Social media graduate school I call it. It means I am online absorbing the information as quickly as possible that is out there and using it to help my clients with their blogs, websites, Facebook pages, and soon the upcoming beta testing for companies on Google Plus!

Every day is a new adventure. The days of one way communication with your customers is over. With social media you engage and they respond. Or they tell you something (a problem, an issue, kudos) and you respond, in real time or as close to it as you can.

Will social media get you the sale? It will build relationships with your customers and help them to have a stake in the success of your company. They become invested in your product or service by the relationship you have established with them. It takes time for these relationships to grow, but the question is answered more thoroughly by saying this:

Social Media, Websites, Blogs all forms of interactive communications will build relationships with your customers and get you the sale now and for many years to come.
